Assessing, Managing and Improving Efficiency and Effectiveness of economic policies and initiatives

Performance measurement is crucial for economic development as it provides a systematic way to assess, manage, and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of economic policies and initiatives. Quantifying progress and outcomes helps economic developers ensure that their strategies are on track and delivering the intended benefits to communities, businesses, and stakeholders.

This course aims to provide participants with a robust understanding of performance measurement in the context of economic development, preparing them to effectively evaluate and enhance the impact of economic development initiatives.

This is an optional Community Economic Development Training Program (CEDTP) course.   


course Outcomes 

    • Define and understand the benefits of Community Economic Development (CED) 
    • Understand the differences between performance management and performance measurement and its value in economic development
    • Identify and discuss relevant economic development performance measurement studies
    • Understand the SOME framework in performance measurement
    • Identify and integrate different types of priorities in economic development
                          • Identify business and economic needs within a community
                          • Develop objectives based on identified priorities
                          • Understand how to apply the Logic Model in measuring performance
                          • Define SMARTER economic development outcomes
                          • Identify different sources of data for performance measurement
                          • Select performance metrics that are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound
                          • Track performance and effectively communicate success
