CEDTP Student Testimonials

The CEDTP program was interesting to me as it was designed for economic development practitioners, and community and government leaders. Exposure to the program provided me with valuable information and training as it related the implementation of economic development projects in communities or regions. It certainly broadened and deepened my knowledge of economic development.

Cameron Spence, Experience Development Manager, Canadian Rockies Region, Travel Alberta

The course helped me see the big picture. After taking my economic development courses, I feel more confident in knowing what is needed by governments, including economic development departments and chambers of commerce, resulting in better-tailored business services and grant applications. I know how to help a community with the skills I have to help start new businesses, grow existing businesses and help prevent companies from closing. I truly understand how those aspects help a community.

Dale Schuab, Executive in Residence NAIT and Norquest College

As an individual with a Marketing degree, this course has helped me to apply my current knowledge within my Economic Development role by marketing a municipality as a desirable place to do business, promoting unique qualities of a municipality, and recognizing the importance of marketing tools in measuring effectiveness.

Anika Gutowski, Economic Development Coordinator, City of Spruce Grove

The BIA course helped me look critically at my department's BIA portfolio and identify areas of strength and weakness. Armed with the insights gleaned from this course I feel prepared to address areas of weakness. This course was influential in confirming my fundamental knowledge of BIA best practices while introducing me to more nuanced aspects which will now be incorporated into our department operations. An unanticipated bonus of the course, and how it's structured, was that it introduced me to peer, group, to bounce ideas off of and share current and future initiatives.

Reade Beaudoin,  Economic Development Officer, City of Fort Saskatchewan

I found the collaboration between different Economic Developers across multiple municipalities and provinces that we were introduced to in the course to be very valuable along with the information provided by Natalie Gibson to be extremely informative and comprehensive.  -Blake Chartrand MBA, Urban Form & Corporate Strategic Development Economic and Environmental Sustainability,  City of Edmonton

I liked the online format because it allowed me to access content whenever I wanted. For those intimidated by the online concept,  this was my first time taking an online course. Whenever I had an issue, my instructor, was there with a prompt answer so I was able to continue. I found great benefit in the ‘Discussion Board’ where you could interact with other students and learn from them as well. I thoroughly enjoyed this process. What a great way to learn!  -Carolyn McIntyre, CED Assistant for the Wildrose Region

I found the  courses very helpful and I really enjoyed working with other professionals across the province. Not only was the course insightful and timely, I found that it could help even the most seasoned veteran. The networking I experienced was a fantastic side benefit as well.  I'd highly recommend this course for any Economic Development Specialist.  -Greg Robinson, Director Community Development & Human Resources, Town of Raymond
